Dreams do Come True
at least some do...
Kirsten patted the silent black stallion beneath her. "There isn't much time left for you old man." Midnight Dreamer exhaled in the cool morning, his breath creating steam. Kirsten tightened the strap on her riding gloves. It was a really cold morning today and Dreamer was her first mount. She shivered. Hopefully it warmed up for the weekend. They had a lot of horses running and obviously she wanted it to go well.
Midnight Dreamer was one of their big hopes for the season. He was older and more experienced and definitely had the speed, stamina and experience to take his racing to a whole new level. So far he hasn't raced in any major races and Kirsten plans on keeping him in a few smaller ones for the beginning of the year and then if he does well she hopes for him to move up into the bigger leagues and go for the Turf Senior Superstars Series at the end of the year. This would be his last year racing and Kirsten wanted to make sure it was a good one.
She clucked her tongue and let him out on the rail. The powerful stallion made the transition silently and smoothly. That was his style - slowly creeping up faster and faster until there was nothing left to do except admit defeat. Kirsten couldn't wait to get him racing again. Just one more day. She smiled to herself. This weekend was going to be a good one. She could feel it.
The sun was starting to rise as they made their way around the final turn. The barn was waking up and full of hungry thoroughbreds. The peace would not last long. Dreamer inched up faster and faster. Kirsten's adrenaline rose another notch. What a great way to start the day.
